Project Linolcut "Island Organs"

Kartographische Ansichten von (Naturschutz)-Inseln wirken mit ihren prägnanten Formungen und Verästelungen wie Organe mit komplexen Kapillarsystemen, diese Parallelität von Mikro- und Makrobereich fasziniert mich.

Die Auswahl meiner Insel-Organe treffe ich anhand von Internet-Recherchen. Ich navigiere z.B. über eine weltweite Liste mit unbewohnten Inseln zur jeweiligen Satellitenansicht oder suche die Küsten gezielt nach Inselformen ab, die mir zusagen.

Der Linolschnitt kommt meinem Faible fürs „Schneiden“ und „haptische Arbeiten“ entgegen und ermöglicht mir eine Auflagenproduktion.

Gedruckt sind die INSEL-ORGANE ausnahmslos mit tiefroter Farbe, was der Organanmutung entspricht.

Cartographic views of islands with their

concise shapes and ramifications work like organs with complex capillary systems, this parallelism of micro and macro areas fascinates me.
I select islands based on internet research. For example, I navigate via a worldwide list of uninhabited islands to the respective satellite view or search the coasts specifically for island shapes that appeal to me.The linocut suits my soft spot for "cutting" and "haptic work" and enables me to produce in print runs. The islands were printed with a deep red color, corresponding to their appearance as organs.

Devon Island

Devon Island im kanadisch-arktischen Archipel ist die größte unbewohnte Insel der Erde. Die Insel besteht überwiegend aus Schluffstein und Schiefer.

Devon Island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago is the largest uninhabited island on earth. The island consists mainly of siltstone and slate.

Kokos-Insel 

Die sagenumwobene Kokos-Insel in Costa Rica (Zentralamerika) ist eine unbesiedelte Insel im Pazifischen Ozean. Die Insel ist vor allem durch zahlreiche Publikationen über Schätze populär geworden. Jetzt ist die Schatzsuche untersagt, die Insel steht seit 1978 unter Naturschutz. 

The legendary Cocos Island in Costa Rica (Central America) is an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean. The island has become popular mainly due to numerous publications about treasures. Now treasure hunts are prohibited, the island has become a nature reserve since 1978.

Ostrow Bolschoi

Ostrow Bolschoi ist die Hauptinsel einer unbewohnten Inselgruppe in der Karasee vor der Nordküste Russlands, den Inseln des Arktischen Instituts, diese sind ein Bestandteil des Bolschoi Arktitscheski Sapowednik, des größten Naturschutzgebietes Russlands.

Ostrow Bolshoi is the main island of the Islands of the Arctic Institute, an uninhabited archipelago in the Kara Sea off the north coast of Russia. The Islands of the Arctic Institute are part of the Bolshoi Arktitscheski Sapovednik, the largest nature reserve in Russia.

Osterinsel

Die Osterinsel ist eine isoliert gelegene Insel im Südostpazifik, die politisch zu Chile gehört, geographisch jedoch zu Polynesien. Bekannt ist sie vor allem wegen der monumentalen Steinskulpturen, der Moai. Seit 1995 ist die Osterinsel als Nationalpark Rapa Nui Teil des UNESCO-Welterbes.

Easter Island is an isolated island in the Southeast Pacific, politically part of Chile but geographically part of Polynesia. It is best known for the monumental stone sculptures, the Moai. Easter Island has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage as Rapa Nui National Park since 1995.

Usedom

Usedom, die zweitgrößte deutsche Insel, liegt in der Ostsee und gehört größtenteils zu Deutschland und zu einem kleinen Teil zu Polen. Ich wollte sie schon immer einmal besuchen, stattdessen integriere ich sie nun in mein Insel-Organ-Projekt.

Usedom, the second largest German island, is located in the Baltic Sea and largely belongs to Germany and a small part to Poland. I've always wanted to visit her, instead I'm integrating her into my island organ project.

Dia

Dia ist eine unbewohnte griechische Insel nördlich Kretas. Sie gehört zum Gemeindebezirk Gouves der Gemeinde Chersonisos.

Dia is an uninhabited Greek island north of Crete. It belongs to the parish of Gouves in the municipality of Hersonisos.

Manuae

Manuae ist ein Atoll in der Südgruppe der Cookinseln (Pazifischer Ozean); es besteht aus zwei flachen, unbewohnten Inseln, Manuae und Te Au O Tu, die durch eine von einem Korallenriff umschlossene Lagune voneinander getrennt sind. Die beiden Inselchen sind die sichtbaren Teile eines gewaltigen unterseeischen Vulkankegels. Das Atoll ist Teil eines Meeresschutzgebiets.

Manuae is an atoll in the southern group of the Cook Islands (Pacific Ocean); it consists of two flat, uninhabited islands, Manuae and Te Au O Tu, separated by a lagoon surrounded by a coral reef. The two islets are the visible parts of a massive submarine volcanic cone. The atoll is part of a marine reserve.

Tongatapu

Tongatapu ist die größte Insel des Königreichs Tonga, eines Inselstaats im Südpazifik, der zu Polynesien gehört. Der Archipel wurde früher auch Freundschaftsinseln genannt. 

Tongatapu is the largest island in the Kingdom of Tonga, a South Pacific island nation that is part of Polynesia. The archipelago used to be called the Friendship Islands.

Malta

Die Insel Malta gehört als größte Insel einer Inselgruppe zur gleichnamigen Republik, einem südeuropäischen Inselstaat im Mittelmeer.

As the largest island in an archipelago, the island of Malta belongs to the republic of the same name, a southern European island state in the Mediterranean Sea.

Deception Island

Deception Island (Insel der Enttäuschung) ist eine der Südlichen Shetlandinseln, einer subantarktischen Inselgruppe. Die Insel ist der Gipfelbereich eines vom Meeresgrund etwa 1500 m hoch aufragenden aktiven Vulkans. Die Caldera bildet einen großen natürlichen Hafen. Vormals befand sich in der Bucht eine Walfangstation, nun beherbergt diese mehrere Forschungsstationen und ist ein antarktisches Tourismusziel.

Deception Island is one of the South Shetland Islands, a sub-Antarctic group of islands. The island is the summit area of an active volcano rising about 1500 m from the seabed. The caldera forms a large natural harbor. Formerly a whaling station, the bay is now home to several research stations and is an Antarctic tourism destination.

Memmert

Memmert ist eine ostfriesische Insel in der Nordsee und wird nur von einem Vogelwart bewohnt. Sie ist die erste Insel, die ich als Linolschnitt druckte, sozusagen mein Referenzobjekt.

Memmert is an East Frisian island in the North Sea and is only inhabited by a bird keeper. It is the first island that I printed as a linocut, its my reference object.
